Technician Certificate in Social Work (NTA 5)
The Technician Certificate in Social Work (TCSW) programme is designed to enable learners, faculty members and administrative staff on achieving the learning outcomes expected at this level. The programme also provides information to other interested partners and stakeholders in social work and related fields of practice regarding competences expected to be developed during training. The programme further integrates methods that trainers could use to determine the learner’s achievement to the respective learning outcomes. In order to provide flexibility in learning, this programme has been packaged in modules, with the intention that on completion of a module a learner could be able to perform a given activity in social work.

Applicant to Technician Certificate in Social Work (NTA 5) should have the following minimum qualifications:
- i) Holders of Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSE) with at least (One principle pass and subsidiary) excluding religious subjects; OR
- ii) Holders of relevant NTA 4 in social work OR
- iii) Possession of technician certificate in social work related disciplines including Community Development, Nursing, Community Health, Gender, Child Protection, Community Work, Counseling, Youth Work, Law, and Psychology.
Transfer of Credit
In the process of learning, a student could shift to a different institution provided that the institution of destiny uses the same curriculum and should have completed and passed the semester or a year at their first school of admission.

Programme Outcomes
The purpose of the programme is to produce personnel who will apply knowledge, skills, values and ethics of Social Work in assisting and supervising welfare activities in the delivery of quality social welfare services in local communities.
The holder of the qualification will be able to apply Social Work skills and knowledge in a range of activities some of which are non-routine and perform operational responsibilities
There will be two types of Learning Assessment namely Continuous Assessment (Formative Assessment) and End of Semester Examination (Summative Assessment).
Continuous Assessment will be conducted throughout the Semester which will contribute 60% of each module weight. End of Semester examination will be conducted at the end of each Semester and contribute 40% of each module weight.
Continuous Assessments (Formative Assessment) 60%.
The 60% (60 Marks) of the Continuous Assessment will be generated from the following Assessment Segments:-
- i) Written Test 25%
- ii) Project or Practical 25%
iii) Assignment 10%
3.0: End of Semester Examinations (Summative Assessment) 40%
The 40% (40 Marks) of the End of Semester Examination will be generated from one Written Examination only.
