Dr. Halima is an expert in tourism and climate change. She has been working extensively on issues related to climate change and tourism in Tanzania and Southern Africa. She holds a PhD in climate change and tourism from Wageningen University (the Netherlands). Among other things, her PhD assessed how changes in climate and land-cover directly affect wildlife (attractions) and tourism. To nature her career on environmental change and tourism, she did her master’s degree on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) at the University of Dar es Salaam where she developed an instream-flow incremental approach to assess how much water should be left to support wildlife and tourism in critical water allocation trade-offs. Here, she wanted to voice out the recognition of environment as among of a ‘water producer and user’ in decision making process. Her career journey started with a bachelor’s degree in wildlife management from the Sokoine University of Agriculture, where she published her first article on ‘contribution of wetlands to household income and food security’; the publication that has received several citations
Currently, Dr. Halima is an external examiner for the VAAL University in South Africa, Department of Tourism and Integrated Communication. She is also a University curricular focal personnel in the HEET project since 2022 to date.
