Bachelor of Arts in Economics (BA Econ)
Economics is a social science which deals with questions so vital for the wellbeing of mankind. Its value is measured (in part) in terms of its ability to help understand the world around us and to grapple with some of the social issues of the times. The ideas of economists both when they are right and when they are wrong are more powerful than is commonly understood. Indeed the world is ruled by little else. But the fact is that the number of scientific economists has always been small relatively to the difficulty of the work to be done. One cause of this is that the bearing of economics on the higher wellbeing of man has probably been overlooked. This reviewed BA Economics programme is here to bridge this gap.
This BA Economics programme recognises the need to provide an academically challenging degree which will provide the student with a sound knowledge of economics concepts and an understanding of the operation of economics in the current Tanzania’s industrialization era and the world at large. A wide range of economic specific and market focused electives are available and the student will be able to use these to study areas relating to personal, vocational and academic interests. The programme goal is to instill in students a fascination with both the functioning of the economy and the power and breadth of economics. Candidates completing this programme are expected to possess the art and science of economic thinking and thus making them potential economists in government ministries, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and economic development sectors such as financial, business, tourism, environment, industrial, mining, international trade and agriculture.
