Bachelor of Education (Adult and Distance Learning)
This programme focuses on preparing teachers who will function in a flexible education system that incorporates open and distance learning at all levels; and which recognizes the right to education throughout one’s life span. The programme takes into consideration the need for facilitators of lifelong learning within the current globalizing world and an expanding knowledge and information economy. The programme is designed at a time when education systems worldwide are increasingly including the open and distance learning mode as a means of widening access to education with the aim of including all people.

Programme Information
OPTION I
Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education with at least TWO passes
Or
Education Diploma with at least 3.0 GPA or C average
OPTION II
An applicant who holds OUT foundation course certificate shall be eligible for admission into BED-ADL programmes. To qualify for admission into this degree programme, a candidate must obtain at least a minimum of 4 POINTS among the three specialized (teaching) subjects that one intends to pursue in the bachelor degree programme (i.e. apart from English Proficiency, Development Studies and Communication Skills).
OPTION III
An applicant who satisfied Examiners in the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Examination at an average of B Grade or above, and holding a valid RPL certificate (approved by TCU) shall be eligible for admission into this degree programmes.
OPTION IV
An applicant with degree or Advanced Diploma awards from other Institutions of Higher Learning will be considered on their own merit.

On completing the programme students is expected to:
- Have a strong understanding of adult education, adult learners and their special educational needs as well as the various ways of facilitating their learning
- Have developed positive understanding and accumulated knowledge in the methods, and approaches to management of adult education and open and distance learning
- Be able to demonstrate understanding of learning needs for out-of-school children, youth, and adults; and specific cultural contexts of the adult learners.
- Have an understanding of how adult education and open and distance learning are related to general education and how they can be used in mobilising the community, the public, resources and other professions to ensure access, equity and equality in provision of education;
- Have developed knowledge and understanding of research and evaluation in the field of education
Candidates will be evaluated by using the following criteria.
Timed Test carrying: 30%
Final Examination carrying: 70%
